Article types
Original Article, Review Article, Technical Paper, Short Communication, and Invited Paper (JCM-102 Art. 6).
Languages
Manuscripts are accepted in English or Korean. Title, abstract and keywords must be supplied in both English and Korean regardless of the language of the manuscript.
Peer Review Policy
Peer review at JCM is conducted with fairness, objectivity, independence, confidentiality, adherence to research ethics, and judgement based on scholarly merit (JCM-103 Art. 2).
Submission and desk review
Manuscripts are received through the online submission system. Before external review, the Editor-in-Chief assesses fit with the aims and scope, compliance with the manuscript guidelines, any breach of research ethics, and the basic scholarly standard of the work. A manuscript may be declined without external review on any of these grounds; the decision and its reasons are communicated to the author (Art. 3, 4).
Selection of reviewers
Each manuscript is sent to two or more reviewers with relevant expertise, selected by the Editor-in-Chief or handling editor on the basis of subject matter, expertise and absence of conflict of interest (Art. 5). Anyone employed at the same institution as an author, a collaborator or recent collaborator, a relative, anyone with a financial interest, and anyone otherwise unable to review fairly is excluded (Art. 6).
Review
JCM operates double-anonymous peer review: authors and reviewers do not know each other's identity (Art. 7). Reviewers assess originality, academic contribution, soundness of methodology, reliability of results, logical structure, appropriateness of references, and fit with the journal (Art. 8). Reviews are completed within 21 days of accepting the assignment (Art. 9).
Decisions
Each reviewer returns one of four recommendations: Accept, Accept after minor revision, Resubmit for review after major revision, or Decline (Art. 10). The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief, who weighs the reviews, the revisions made and the scholarly value of the work, and may refer the manuscript to the Editorial Board (Art. 11). Where two reviews conflict markedly, a third reviewer may be appointed; a third review is considered alongside the others and the decision is never made by simple majority (Art. 12).
Revision, re-review and appeals
Authors submit a revised manuscript with a point-by-point response (Art. 13). Revised manuscripts are due within 30 days; manuscripts not returned in time may be treated as withdrawn (Art. 15). An author may appeal in writing within 14 days of the decision where there was a material procedural error or the fairness of review was compromised; one appeal per manuscript is normally accepted (Art. 16).
Research Ethics Policy
This policy applies to all authors, reviewers and editors (JCM-201 Art. 2). Researchers are expected to maintain research integrity, report results accurately and objectively, respect the work of others, and act fairly throughout research and publication (Art. 3).
Research misconduct
- Fabrication — inventing data or results that do not exist.
- Falsification — manipulating or distorting research materials or results.
- Plagiarism — using another's ideas, results or expression without appropriate citation.
- Duplicate publication — publishing the same or substantially similar work more than once.
- Improper authorship — listing someone who did not substantially contribute, or omitting someone who did.
- Improperly obstructing or manipulating the review or editorial process.
- Any other act that seriously undermines the credibility of the research.
Plagiarism and duplicate submission
Every manuscript must contain the author's own original work, with clear citation and attribution where the work of others is used. The Editorial Board may use similarity-checking software to verify originality (Art. 5). A manuscript under review at another journal may not be submitted to JCM at the same time, and work identical or substantially similar to an already published article may not be republished. Where a manuscript develops a conference paper or preliminary results, this must be stated (Art. 6).
Handling breaches
Where a breach is alleged, the Editor-in-Chief investigates and may refer the matter to a research ethics committee (Art. 11). The author concerned is given a full opportunity to respond (Art. 12). Where a breach is confirmed, the Editorial Board may, in proportion to its seriousness, refuse the submission, halt the review, revoke publication, retract the article, bar submission for a defined period, notify the author's institution, or take any other necessary measure (Art. 13).
Publication Ethics
JCM practises publication ethics through respect for scholarly integrity, guaranteed editorial independence, fair and objective review, transparent disclosure of research outputs, proper management of conflicts of interest, and prompt correction of errors after publication (JCM-202 Art. 3).
Authors
Submit accurate and truthful results; comply with the Research Ethics Policy; obtain the agreement of all co-authors before submission; disclose conflicts of interest in good faith; respond conscientiously to reviewers; and notify the Editorial Board immediately on discovering a significant error after publication (Art. 4).
Reviewers
Review on the basis of expertise and objectivity; observe deadlines; recuse themselves immediately where a conflict of interest exists; neither disclose nor use information obtained during review; and refrain from personal attacks and inappropriate language (Art. 5).
Editors
Base decisions on the scholarly value of the work; remain uninfluenced by an author's nationality, gender, institution or personal relationships; select reviewers fairly; handle allegations of misconduct appropriately; and recuse themselves where conflicted (Art. 6). The Editor-in-Chief guarantees the independence of editing and publication, makes the final publication decision, handles ethics breaches fairly, and keeps the publication ethics policy under continuous improvement (Art. 7).
Publisher
The Institute of Convergence Mobility, Dankook University, respects editorial independence, provides the administrative and financial support the journal requires, and does not improperly intervene in editorial decisions (Art. 8).
Conflict of Interest Policy
A conflict of interest is any personal, financial, professional or other interest that affects — or could reasonably be perceived to affect — the objectivity and fairness of research, review or editorial work. Potential and perceived conflicts, not only actual ones, are subject to disclosure (JCM-203 Art. 3).
Authors
Authors must disclose at submission every conflict capable of affecting their results, including research funding; financial support from a company or institution; consultancy fees, speaker fees or honoraria; stock, equity or investment relationships; patents or other intellectual property; and any other relevant interest. Where there is nothing to disclose, authors state "None declared" (Art. 4). Disclosure is made on the JCM Author Declaration & Publishing Agreement submitted with every manuscript.
Reviewers and editors
A reviewer must decline where they are at the same institution as an author, are a collaborator, have a close academic relationship such as supervisor and student, are a relative or in a comparable personal relationship, or are otherwise unable to review fairly (Art. 5). An editor recuses themselves in the equivalent circumstances; where the Editor-in-Chief is conflicted, an Associate Editor or the Editorial Board handles the manuscript (Art. 6). Where a conflict is identified, the Editorial Board may replace the reviewer, change the handling editor, or commission additional review (Art. 7).
AI Use and Authorship Policy
AI may be used as a tool to support research and writing. Regardless of whether AI was used, final responsibility for the accuracy, completeness and research ethics of the manuscript rests with the authors, and use of AI must not compromise reproducibility, transparency or credibility (JCM-204 Art. 3).
Permitted uses
Correction of grammar and expression; translation and improvement of style; assistance in drafting an abstract or summary; assistance with programming code and debugging; assistance with data organisation or analysis; assistance in preparing figures or diagrams; and other supporting uses — provided the authors review and verify every output themselves (Art. 4).
Disclosure
Where generative AI was used substantively, the nature and extent of that use must be stated in the manuscript or in a separate disclosure. Simple spelling checks, grammar correction and ordinary editing functions need not be disclosed (Art. 5).
Authorship
AI cannot be an author. AI cannot hold copyright and cannot bear responsibility for research. Every author bears responsibility for the whole of the work (Art. 6). Authors are responsible for verifying AI-generated content, removing false or distorted information, confirming citations and sources, and disclosing the use of AI (Art. 7).
Review and editing
Reviewers may use AI to support their assessment, but must not enter the manuscript or any part of it into an external generative AI service except through a secure system approved by JCM; review comments must be written independently by the reviewer (Art. 8). AI cannot substitute for editorial judgement, and the final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief (Art. 9).
Corrections and Retractions
Correction and retraction exist to preserve the reliability of the scholarly record and are not disciplinary measures against researchers. All actions follow a fair and transparent procedure (JCM-205 Art. 3).
Correction
A correction may be issued for errors in author names or affiliations, errors in references, editorial errors in figures, tables or equations, factual errors that do not materially affect interpretation, and any other matter the Editorial Board considers requires correction (Art. 4). An author or a third party may request a correction; where made, the fact and content are published as a separate notice linked bidirectionally with the original article (Art. 5).
Expression of concern
Where serious doubt has been raised about an article but an investigation has not concluded, an expression of concern may be published to inform readers, maintained until the facts are established (Art. 6).
Retraction
An article may be retracted where fabrication or falsification is confirmed; plagiarism or duplicate publication is confirmed; a serious breach of research ethics is confirmed; an error markedly undermines the reliability of the results; or the Editorial Board otherwise considers retraction necessary (Art. 7). The Editorial Board investigates and gives the authors a full opportunity to respond; the Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision (Art. 8).
Retracted articles are not deleted. A retraction notice stating the fact and grounds is published and linked bidirectionally with the original article, and retracted articles are clearly marked "Retracted" in every electronic form (Art. 9).
Publication Charges
JCM charges an article processing charge (APC) on accepted manuscripts. There is no submission fee and no review fee (JCM-302 Art. 4).
Article processing charge
KRW 50,000 per page of the final published version. The charge is payable after the acceptance decision and before the publication date (JCM-302 Art. 5).
Waivers
The Editorial Board may waive or reduce the charge for (JCM-302 Art. 6):
- papers commissioned by the Editorial Board as invited papers;
- authors who state that payment would be a hardship and whose case the Editorial Board accepts;
- any other case the Editorial Board considers warrants a waiver.
A request for a waiver has no bearing on the review and is not disclosed to reviewers. Whether the charge has been paid is likewise withheld from reviewers and handling editors throughout the review process (JCM-302 Art. 3).
Reader charges
None. JCM is an open access journal and levies no reading, subscription or equivalent charge on readers (JCM-302 Art. 8).
Other costs
Reprints and similar items requested by authors are charged at cost. These charges are unrelated to the review and publication decision (JCM-302 Art. 7).
Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright in their work (JCM-301 Art. 3, 4) and grant JCM a non-exclusive publishing licence covering publication, reproduction, distribution, online transmission, preservation and archiving, and provision through scholarly information services. This licence does not limit the authors' copyright (Art. 6).
Authors retain the right to use their work for academic and educational purposes, to deposit it in institutional repositories and on personal or laboratory websites, and to use it in conference presentations, teaching materials and research reports (Art. 5).
Unless otherwise stated, articles published in JCM are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Users may copy, distribute, share and adapt the work provided the author and source are credited (Art. 9).
JCM may supply articles to the Korea Citation Index (KCI), Crossref, DOI registration agencies and other scholarly information services (Art. 7). Authors must obtain permission for any third-party material included in the article, and bear legal responsibility for its use (Art. 10).
Editorial Board and Independence
JCM is published by the Institute of Convergence Mobility, Dankook University. The publisher provides administrative and financial support and does not intervene in the editorial rights of the Editorial Board or in decisions on review and publication (JCM-001 Art. 2; JCM-003 Art. 4). Neither the publisher, nor sponsors, nor any external body may influence the review or the publication decision of any article (JCM-001 Art. 7).
The Editorial Board comprises an Editor-in-Chief, a number of Associate Editors, and one or more Managing Editors (JCM-002 Art. 4). The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the head of the publishing institution for a term of three years and makes the final decision on publication (Art. 7, 8). Associate Editors are appointed on the recommendation of the Editor-in-Chief and act in their absence (Art. 11, 12). The Editorial Board meets at least twice a year (Art. 15).
